International Youth Festival ATiYF - 5th Edition from July 10–20, 2020 “ARTIVISM”

ASHTAR Theatre
The first theatre training organization for youth in Palestine, established in 1991. Its years of experience is built over three artistic pillars; Drama Training, Theatre of the Oppressed, and Professional Productions.

ASHTAR aims at empowering youth, providing them with acting skills and life experience. We work in cities, villages, and refugee camps. In Jerusalem, West Bank and The Gaza Strip.

What is ATiYF?
A ten-day biennial Camp-Fest, organized by ASHTAR youth, in their 4th year of the drama training program, as their graduation project.

ATiYF 5th edition is a result of the success of the four previous editions. ATiYF aims to create a forum for exchange of experiences between local and international theatre students and emerging professionals ages (24 - 16 years). Each theatre group brings a performance, and join workshops throughout the period of the festival.

ATiYF, has hosted artists and groups from various countries; Germany, Russia, Poland, France, UK, Italy, USA, Tunisia, Egypt and Jordan.

Artivism
Every year our youth chose a title, a theme for the festival; this year’s theme is Artivism. We define Artivism as artists who use their skills in socio-political activism.

ATiYF is an opportunity for mutual theatre and cultural learning, constructive dialogue and solidarity, a chance for youth to speak up freely, raise social awareness and develop global responsibility.

Artivism, enables our youth to become more active artists, citizens and social change mediators.

Festival’s Time Frame
Our -10 day festival will run from 10-20 July 2020, and will reach various West Bank Cities: Ramallah, Hebron, Bethlehem, Jericho and Jenin. It will include: performances, workshops, local touring, social gatherings & cultural events.

Performances
National and international youth theatre groups will bring and perform plays. Each performance will be presented once over the period of the festival. In order to increase the attendance of disadvantaged audiences, performances will be free of charge for the local community.

Workshops
The Festival will be hosting a number of experts who will give specific workshops over 7 days, which will enable the participants to develop their skills in topics of their choice over a -35hour program. All workshops will culminate in a final performance.

Logistics:
The festival will be responsible for providing accommodation and local transportation for all participants in Palestine. International travel will be the responsibility of the participants.

Submission policy:
Every theatre group should apply before December 2019 ,22.
Every group needs to send a video of their play, a script for subtitles, a full technical rider and press cuttings.
Final date to submit the application: Saturday, December 21st 2019.
